Course Description

Independent Directed Studies 11/12 (only available to Burnaby School District students)

Independent Directed Studies (IDS) courses provide opportunities for students currently enrolled in the Burnaby School District to pursue learning that extends beyond those normally taught in the classroom and/or to study independently of the classroom.

An IDS course is initiated by a student, and conducted under the supervision of the IDS teacher and a mentor. Each IDS course must be based on one or more learning standards from the Ministry of Education. Learning standards are chosen from curriculum at the grade 10-12 level (https://curriculum.gov.bc.ca/curriculum/search). An IDS course can earn one to four elective credits depending on the depth of study undertaken and completed.

An IDS Course Proposal/Learning Plan is created by the student with guidance from the Burnaby Online IDS Teacher. Once the IDS Course Proposal/Learning Plan has been approved, the student will be directed to register. IDS Course Proposal Template
